Why is the word 'slat' so powerful?

No he shouldn't have called all women that word "slat". Just those who dress and act like one. Maybe if he makes another statement and qualifies that these hags will stop the marches. Don't see any one of them so far that I'd even be tempted to bother with with their permission let alone any other way. I suppose the marches does give them something to do though.
